Vanessa Garcia | From Paralegal to Voiceover Artist

Vanessa Garcia is a full-time para legal. “For 18 years, the law has always been my life, but I’ve always been a dreamer,” she says, “and in voiceover, you can really dream.” She graduated from UCLA and later from an extension paralegal program with honors. So, her interest in the law has always been genuine.

If Netflix thinks so, WE agree. Vanessa Garcia has super-nova talent. A business brain and a creative mind. “As a paralegal, you do the work, and the attorney presents, and he or she IS the figurehead; that’s reality,” Vanessa explains. “It’s just the way it is.”

A perpetual positive thinker, Vanessa has been successful at combining one of the dryest forms of business (the legal profession) with one of the world’s most entertaining, “and that’s voiceover,” Vanessa comments.

Having this level of talent after only seven years at a hard pursuit, only the untrained ear would not realize that Vanessa’s future is self-assured. “I’ve always loved animation,” Vanessa says. “But I never thought I could be a part of it.”

Introduced to voiceover by her cousin Tyler, Vanessa felt a kindship to the portrayal of different characters.  “And I’ve been serious now for several years, and improvement is always on my mind, but I was always playing around with acting as a child, always.”

But of all the genres of voiceover, nothing compares to Vanessa’s demonstration in animation and character work.

Diving into a world of character voices is an experience all its own.  Here’s another example of how a paralegal can leave no trace that she is one.

Childhood had a profound impact on Vanessa, because unlike so many in the arts, Vanessa youth was enjoyable and motivational. “As far as I can remember, I was always emulating characters I would see on TV and really felt it was something I could do.”

And life in her legal career has gone well also.  Because solving legal problems is practically a format; Motion, deposition, trial, judgement.  Repeated for years, and you’ll get the urge to have fun at your work. “And voiceover provides that,” Vanessa tells me.

All the way back to high school at Gabrielino High School in LA, Vanessa had an inner voice to exploit her talents.  And so far, so good.
